How to get to Chitlang???

,
Guide to Chitlang (Way to Chitlang)
(last updated :2017/04/13 5:07 pm)

You heard about Chitlang and now you are really interested to visit Chitlang. But you don’t know how to get to Chitlang. You surf on the net and found tour operators getting you there .But see those hefty fees they are charging .Don’t worry this post will guide you to Chitlang ..I am just guiding you the way,the cheapest ,most easiest way for your help.
So,lets get started.
1.Let us start from Thamel ,located at central Kathmandu which is known to most of us , please follow the  route.First of all arrive at Kathmandu Old buspark. You can just search in google maps how to get to Old buspark (In Nepali it’s purano Buspark). Its quite easy way,get to Ratnapark and you are there.
2.Kathmandu Buspark is not that far from Thamel and can be reached within 20 minutes or even faster on foot.If you take taxi, its about 10 minutes drive .

3.When you are in Old buspark, find the queue of buses going to Thankot,Ask if it goes to Godam. Its better if you catch the bus to Godam because it’s the place where your journey for Chitlang actually begins. Also the cable car to Bhalewsor (Chandragiri) is also available from Godam. If  you take the bus to Thankot, walk for about 15 minutes to your south and you are in Godam.I advise you to be seated comfortably on bus as its almost more than 8 km to Godam. The bus fare is  around Rs 20 as of this date per person. Please ask the conductor of bus to get you off at Godam, its not that difficult to reach Godam. If you don't get the bus to Godam, catch the bus to Thankot and from there walk to Godam which is about 15 minutes to South .

4.After you reach Godam, look for the jeeps or mini bus in que.Ask the locals if you don't see as sometimes there won't be any vehicle and you need to wait for the vehicle. If you are in jeep,be seated comfortably as its difficult and rough road ride for  more than one hour.

Update :Please note that for the purpose of road maintainence the transportation to Chitlang is through Godam - Chnadragiri - Chitlang is  not proper. However the regular transportaion has started from Godam - Matatirtha - Chakhel - Chitlang route.
(Updated 2073/12/31 )

Alternative route includes getting to going to Chnadragiri on Cable car and trekking down,or you can catch tata sumo from Balkhu to Markhu,Kulekhani and hike from there. Also you can get the vehicle from Kalanki(opposite of Baba pump) going to Kulekhani and hike north to Chitlang from Markhu for about one hour).

Please contact 9818003030 for more info. Also you can get updates on our faecbook page www.fb.com/chitlangtrek

Then it stops only at village. Now you are in Chitlang.

    Rabin B. says:

yes we can go and return on the same day,,,but that depends on how you go and return. If you trek to chitlang ,then it is possible that you might be tired ,so may wish not to return.but if you can, then returning on same day is possible/,if you are going to return on vehicle, then its possible subject to availability of vehicle. On bike ,yes you can return twice :-0

availability of vehicles can not be guaranteed ,if you are in group then you can reserve, otherwise it is suggested to return on morning,as there is atleast one vehicle coming to thankot everyday.

An honest suggestion, please do not take bike unless its offroad bike, and you are highly dedicated. The road is muddy at many places where bike may stuck, plus the road is not easy one.The main problem you may face is tires slipping due to mud.But you can visit Chitlang on bus or local jeeps. But yeah you can take bike ,depends on how experienced and well rider you are.If you need more info, plz comment

    are jeeps available all day?

    rabin says:

Yes,you can get jeeps, bus(force),but please reserve the seat for yourself by either calling or telling the driver earlier for seats otherwise getting seats may be difficut.Or you can go to Narayanhiti, where bus and jeeps are parked ,to reserve a seat for yourself.

Can we get bus or jeep in the afternoon cause we are from pokhara and it will be noon when we arrive thankot from pokhara or we have to wait for next day or we can hike and reach the village upto 7pm?

  • July 17, 2016 at 8:48 AM
    rabin says:

Yes, jeeps and bus are available all the seasons unless the road is blocked,Transportation at afternoon cannot be guaranteed ,but if you are in group it will be easier as jeeps will move on even if few seats are unoccupied.
Yes you can trek if you wish to ,but its rainy season so be well prepared.Roads are slippery so take special care while going downhill from Chandragiri.Carry salt or use local herb " tite pati " to avoid leeches.Carry water and other snacks as there is no human settelemnt till you reach Chitlang except one hotel at the top of hill. Please visit my other post http://makwanpurdistrict.blogspot.com/2016/05/chitlang-hiking-route.html for trekking route and for hotels to stay or homestay please visit http://makwanpurdistrict.blogspot.com/2015/08/resturant-guest-houses-and-resorts-in.html.

sorry for the late reply, actually I was away for short time

    # sabin sijakhwo :"beauty les in the eye of beholder",its your way of looking and thinking ,what you describe as beautiful. But I say Chitlang is good place to visit.

Risks in term of what? Accidents while travelling depends on how careful you are, serios road accidents on the way to Chitlang are rarely heard ,and Chitlang is safe destination for travellers and trekkers with most friendly people always ready to help you happily.Never heard of theft and robbery .But be alert always if you are doubtful.

Hope your queries are solved ,please visit my other posts on blog about tekking routes to Chitlang, places to visit in Chitlang, hotels and guest houses in Chitlang and other info.Still you have queries ,please do comment, will reply as soon as possible.

If you like and enjoy travelling you can visit alone as well,,but travelling in group is fun otherwise you can visit with any number of friends,,

Chitlang is famaous as a refreshment hiking destination, peaceful and close to Kathmandu, ancient newar settlements, unique culture, peace, scenic beauty are attractions of Chitlang,,,you can do boating at Kulekhani lake (Indrasarobar),go on hiking, please visit my other post in this blog "Places that you can visit at Chitlang(Attractions of Chitlang)" http://makwanpurdistrict.blogspot.com/2016/03/places-that-you-can-visit-at-chitlang.html for more details

    #Prajwal maharjan

Choosing the route is your decision. If just Chtlang is your destination, then through Thankot would be the nearest route about 14 km, but if you want to visit Kulekhani,Vedafaram, then you can take both the routes,go through Thankot and return through Pharping or vice versa.

Please be informed that the route through Thankot-Chandragiri- Chitlang is not blacktopped so scooters with double load is higly not suggested unless you are willing to get off at seveeal points and push it,even if you are in bikes and not so experienced, please better not be in rainy seaon, the roads are slippery ,with difficult sections at some points.Even if you are through Pharping -Kulekhani-Markhu-Chitlang route, road from Markhu to Chitlanf is little difficult with slippery raods and potholes, but comparatively Pharping route is easy one (if it is not blocked by landslides),please take the status about roads before you travel.

@unknown Almost all lodging faciities available are comfortable to stay at.The home stay is only granted after all facilities and requirement are met.The hotels are established for business so obviously they maintain quality to attract and retain customer.Do not worry about quality, you will be satisfied. As I am not associated with any of the hotels so I won't recommend one,but take my words, you will be satisfied by the quality of lodging at Chitlang.

@Gita Sorry for the delayed reply as I was out of internet access for few weeks.Hope your trip has been wonderful.Still if you have not visited Chitlang, then please carry warmer clothes for Children ,and for you,a track, and comfortable shoes if you are planning to trek.Other wise you can go on normal clothing as you wear in Kathmandu. One thing ,Chitlang is little colder than kathmandu

#Sarin Karmacharya : Early the better,if you can go to Narayanhiti at early morning (aroungd 5:30 am ) ,you have high chance of getting the comfortable seats.

@Sushant Subedi:Hey brother ,don't worry,Chitlang is safe place,no such incidents are heard till this date.Yes the route is safe, but would be better in group.Yes they won't be lost if they follow the route as the road is staraight and leads to Chitlang only.If they are confused about the road, just follow the motorway and you will be at Pauwa Police station (Chitlang) from where the hotels are 5 min away. Returning on the same day is possible, but trekking back may be little difficult as you get tired. If you can catch jeep or vehicle you can return on same day. Vehicles are available near form the hotel,or you can go to Narayanhiti, about 15 mins from Chitlang Goat cheese factory,to ensure the seats. Its your choice either to trek back or catch the vehicle.

Rs 345 is not taxi fare, please read it carefully,Rs 345 is toral fare.

Rs 120 per person one way to Chitlang
Rs 25 (Max) per person one way to Godam
Rs 150 to Old buspark(if you take taxi from Thamel) one way.Total Rs 345 one way to Chitlang

If you don't take taxi you can go to Chitlang at Just Rs 145 one way .Lodging fooding Rs 1300 per night.

Yes, you can take the reserved or private bus ,but the road is difficult for bus and all the driver may not be well experienced to drive in such difficult roads. So first consult with the driver and then take the bus.You can get the vehicle (jeep and bus) going to Chitlang from Godam so its your choice to hike or go on bus.
